What You Need to Know about the Blue Beach

As a matter of fact, Vieques itself has been known throughout the world for being constantly ranked by both local and international travel magazines and blogs as among the best in the Caribbean. ¬†Well, if you’re considered one of the best in the Caribbean, then you are really exceptional because you won’t find ugly beaches in this side of the world, that’s for sure.

La Chiva is located inside the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, which is a protected sanctuary for birds and marine animals that ensures that the biodiversity in the area is maintained. Because of this, the beach and Vieques in its entirety give visitors a glimpse of what the Caribbean looks like before huge hotels, cruise ships, and resort developers descended into the region.

Swimming at Blue Beach

To get to La Chiva, first you have to make your way to Isla de Vieques. There’s a ferry from Fajardo that regularly transports visitors to the island from mainland Puerto Rico. You can also take a short flight from San Juan International Airport, or Isla Grande Airport in San Juan, or from Ceiba International Airport on the eastern side of the country.

When you get into the island, hold on to your men’s trunks first. You’ll have to ride a Jeep or a 4WD vehicle before you can get to Blue Beach and enjoy everything it has to offer.

With its crystal clear waters that turn turquoise as they go deeper and fine white sand, Blue Beach is the perfect spot for those who want to enjoy some peace and quiet. Being here is like being transported back in time. There are a lot of wide open spaces, with a few grass beds scattered here and there, making it a great place to take photographs and Instagram shots.

Swimming at Blue Beach is a must do, like in all the beaches in Isla de Vieques. If you’re bringing your family with you, your kids will definitely like this place. The water is very clear and the waves are very gentle, especially during winter, making swimming very safe for them. And because the water is as clear as glass, it’s easy to see colourful fishes and other marine animals underwater when you go snorkelling.
