Some Fun Trivia about Parrot Cay

Parrot Cay is an island privately owned by the COMO Hotels and Resorts group. It is located about 925 kilometres off the coast of Miami, in Florida, USA and is part of the Turks and Caicos Islands. It features a high-end beach resort and hotel with 61 rooms.

If you’re interested in pirate stories, you’ll definitely get a kick out of your stay in Parrot Cay. It was said that this little island has been used as the base of two female pirates who terrorized the local waters almost 300 years ago. The island has also been used to grow a wide variety of crops, including lemons, cotton, and okra back in the day.

Since Parrot Cay is a private island, you can’t just waltz in there and a pitch a tent so you can enjoy the beach. You will have to contact the resort and make a reservation since they limit the number of guests who stay on the island.  Once you’ve booked your stay, you can reach Parrot Cay by first travelling to Providenciales International Airport, the primary airport on the Turks and Caicos Islands. Then, travel by car to Leeward Marina, where you’ll have to catch a private boat arranged by COMO to Parrot Cay.

Swimming at Parrot Cay

With its calm waves and powdery white sands, sunbathing and swimming at Parrot Cay is a must do. Because the beach is not too crowded, you’ll definitely find a good spot where you can relax with your mates or loved ones. Lounging by the beach is highly-recommended, too. In fact, if you stick a small flag in front of your lounge chair, someone will come over to give you a drink of your choice.

Since one of the world’s largest reefs is found in the area, make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to go snorkelling or scuba diving. The island’s crystal clear waters will give you the perfect opportunity to see a wide array of vibrant and colourful marine life with your very own eyes.

Once you get tired of swimming or scuba diving, why not take advantage of the resort’s many facilities? For starters, you can visit the hotel’s spa, COMO Shambhala retreat, which bagged the Readers’ Spa Awards in 2004. You can enjoy a variety of massages and relaxation treatments at the spa. The place also offers yoga classes, steam, and sauna. If you got tired of the beach, the hotel also has a private pool where you can wear your men’s swim trunks and take a dip.
