Best Perth Beaches
Perth beaches are amongst the best in Australia, and extremely popular with visitors to Western Australia. Great transport routes make traversing the city a breeze, which is why holidaymakers can have so much choice in regards to which sights they want to see and which Perth beaches they wish to visit.
Which Perth Beaches Are Best?
Much loved for its diverse range of activities and attractions, Cottesloe Beach is ideal for families with children and one of the most famous Perth Beaches. The old concrete entrance (which was once used for attaching shark nets onto) which makes an excellent platform for youngsters to jump and play from.
Scarborough Beach is often regarded as the most significant rival to Cottesloe Beach in terms of popularity and another of the famous Perth Beaches. It features high rise buildings as a backdrop and is ideally suited to surfers who are looking for their next thrilling wave. It features a large number of stores and food outlets along its shoreline, including cafes, ice-cream kiosks, and burger joints.
As a continuous stretch of white, soft sands, Port Beach provides a calmer alternative to Scarborough. It's gentle; still waters make it ideal for swimmers and casual paddle boarders, and since it has far fewer visitors, it is also an excellent place for a leisurely stroll.
Trigg Beach is hugely popular, and with its massive and intimidating waves, it's easy to see why; it is the perfect destination for any keen surfer who wants to experience a truly exhilarating ride. Its strong current makes it unsuitable for swimmers, notably weaker ones; however, the firm sand makes it possible for anyone to enjoy a walk alongside the crashing waves. Trigg is one of the Perth Beaches that surfers love!
Southern Swanbourne Beach
Southern Swanbourne Beach is a family-friendly destination which is spacious and is easily the same size as Cottesloe Beach. Its gentle waves and equally delicate tide make it perfect for wading and swimming, and it is often used as a location for a stroll in the summer sun.
Northern Swanbourne Beach
While its southern sister site is family friendly, Northern Swanbourne Beach is less so thanks to its clothes-optional approach to sunbathing (ie, yes it is a nude beach). If you ever fancied trying out a day at a nudist beach, this is the perfect opportunity thanks to its secluded nature. The beach is accessed by a 300m-long track from the car park.
Further north of Perth, the calm and gentle waters at Lancellin Beach are perfect for a day out in the warm summer sun. The crystal-clear waves are gentle but equally, they are pronounced enough for novice surfers to practice on, with kite surfing being preferred. The beach has a Car Park nearby which makes an access and unpacking easy.
Rottnest Island Beaches
As Perth's most popular offshore destination, Rottnest Island offers a selection of coves which can be explored and warm, still waters that are perfect for a relaxing swim. Visitors can experience the joy of snorkelling, boating, and surfing as well. Our favorite is the Basin – an easy walk from where the ferry comes into the island.
Accessible from Leighton to the south, Mosman Beach offers a quiet and undisturbed day out in the famous Perth sun. Its gentle waves are ideal for swimming, and the soft sands make this beach ideal for a family picnic or a wander alongside the tumbling water.
