Guide to Swimming at Bondi Beach, Australia

Guide to Swimming at Bondi Beach, Australia
Swimming at Bondi Beach is a must do for all visitors to Sydney. Considered the most popular beach in the country, Bondi Beach attracts thousands or even millions of beach goers every year. The beach is especially packed in the summer, with throngs of locals and tourists alike finding different ways to escape the summer heat. Of course, the beach is also a must-visit for people watchers as buffed men in their men's swimwear and gorgeous women in their dazzling swimsuits constantly make their way through Bondi Beach's world-famous golden shoreline.

Swimming at Bondi Beach

To get there, take the express buses that run to Bondi Beach from Sydney's city centre. Barring any accident or unfortunate circumstance, it will take you about 30 minutes to reach your destination. There are also trains that go from the city centre to Bondi Junction, which is just 10 minutes away by bus or taxi from the beach. So now you're at Bondi Beach. Congratulations! If you're up for swimming at Bondi Beach, the beach's northern end is the perfect place the do that. It has been rated a gentle 4 (with 10 being as the most hazardous) so it's safe to take a dip at the beach's cool waters and swim even with your kids (in case you have some). A quick note, though. Make sure to swim between the red and yellow flags to ensure your safety. You certainly don't want some accidents ruining your trip. Speaking of safety, watch out for the Backpackers' Rip on the southern side of Bondi Beach. This infamous rip current has caused some problems to many beachgoers over the years so be sure to avoid swimming in the southern side of the beach if you're not a skilled swimmer. Is swimming too tame for you? Then consider learning to surf. Bondi's protected waters offer an excellent place to hone your surfing skills. There are a number of companies that offer small group and private surfing lessons for both adults and kids. Whether you're a beginner or an intermediate surfer, you'll surely find surfers at Bondi Beach to teach you ride the waves (and look cool while doing it).

Bondi Beach is Not Just for Swimming

Tired after swimming? Then head out and grab a bite. Bondi Beach is surrounded by some of the best restaurants and cafes in Sydney. Icebergs Dining Room and Bar and North Bondi Fish are the two most popular restaurants in the area. After pigging out, you can also wander around the nearby shops to buy some quirky items and souvenirs. Just make sure you don't strut around in just your men's swim trunks.
