As with any public beaches in Australia, make sure that you always swim between the flags. This is to prevent you from accidentally getting into the deeper parts of the ocean and to make it easier for lifeguards to spot you. Also, speaking of lifeguards, make sure that you pay attention to the surf lifesavers on duty.
Read the board and learn about the rips. Surfers Paradise beach are known for sometimes having strong rips, sweeps, and currents that can pull you out of the flagged area. Make sure that you educate yourself so you'll know what to do in case you get caught in a rip. If you have kids with you, you should keep a close eye on them, especially when they are in the water.
Surfing at Surfers Paradise
Although Surfers Paradise beach is named as such, it is rare to see surfing enthusiasts hitting the beach. Most diehard Aussie surfers are at Currumbin Alley, Nobby's, Kirra or Burleigh, where the breaks are greater and the waves are bigger. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that you can't surf at Surfers Paradise. You can still surf as long as you're not looking for big waves.
Surfers Paradise is popular among beginner surfers, boogie boarders, body surfers, and kite surfers. Skim boarding is quite popular, too, and Surfers Paradise is perfect for this activity, especially when the tide is low. If you don't know how to surf but you're keen on learning, there are several surf schools in the area that use the beach and surf to teach beginners.
So what are you waiting for? Don your stylish mens swimwear and visit one of Queensland's greatest treasures.
