First some trivia
If you're a wine enthusiast, you've probably heard of Margaret River a dozen times. Well, this is fairly understandable because this town, which is located just nine kilometres from the Indian Ocean, is known in many different parts of the world for its vibrant wine industry. But before we discuss that, let's learn more about the region itself. Margaret River, the town, is named after Margaret River, the river. The river itself is believed to be named after Margaret Whicher, who was the cousin of Busselton founder John Garrett Bussell. As early as 1850, European immigrants had resided in the area and made a living through logging timber.

To get there from other parts of Australia, you can travel first to the WA capital of Perth by plane. From there, Margaret River is a three-hour drive to the south. If you don't want to bring your own vehicle along, you can take a bus. South West Coast Lines provides coach services everyday from the city's Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and Perth Airport to Margaret River and its surrounding cities and towns such as Dunsborough, Busselton, Manjimup, Collie, and Bunbury. Margaret River has a Mediterranean climate—not too hot, not too cold—which adds up to its appeal as a prime swimming destination in Western Australia. Plus, the region's pristine white sand beaches and awesome surf breaks make an excellent destination for both swimmers and surfers alike. So if you find yourself in this side of the country, be sure that you have a pair of men's swim trunks in your luggage. Apart from its gorgeous beaches, Margaret River is well-known for its wineries. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate of the region, locals were able to create some of the best wines not just in Australia, but in other parts of the world, as well. If you want to sample some of the best wines in the country, you can start at Vasse Felix, the region's first ever winery. There are over 120 wineries to visit in the area so make sure that you take it easy with your first winery. Of course, Margaret River is also the perfect place for lovers of the great outdoors. Rugged bushland surrounds Margaret River, providing adventurers like you with lots of options to choose from.
